HOW LIVERPOOL COULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF INTER MILAN PLIGHT

Last summer, the heart of Inter’s title winning side was ruthlessly dismantled by the club’s owners Suning, as the Chinese conglomerate made it perfectly clear that the club’s debt was unsustainable and that cuts would have to be made after winning their first title in 11 years. Antonio Conte, the man to steer Inter to their first Scudetto since José Mourinho’s treble, realised this and walked out the door. Soon thereafter, Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku followed suit.

Twelve months later and Inter, who are going into the final day of the Serie A season on Sunday with the possibility to retain their title, are reportedly due to sell one major star again this summer. It’s believed that the club’s debt is still high, but not as alarming as last summer, and so in order to get the books into shape, the club will need to make one big sacrifice.

This could be of interest to Liverpool, with Jürgen Klopp’s men playing Inter in the round of 16 in the Champions League this season. Klopp will have no doubt seen a few players he liked. It’s thought that Inter will listen to the highest offers, no matter the player (though they would like to keep Lautaro Martínez), so who could Liverpool perhaps make a bid for?
Nicolò Barella
The midfield dynamo has been one of Inter’s best players this season, and given Liverpool’s lack of depth in the holding midfield position, Barella could be an option for Klopp. Barella has all the tools needed to play for the club. He’s dynamic, technically proficient and has a tremendous motor to get up and down the pitch.
Alessandro Bastoni
The Italian defender improves with every passing season, and has gone from a potential talent under Conte to a guaranteed starter for Roberto Mancini at international level within a couple of years.
Milan Škriniar
If not Bastoni, then rugged Slovakian Škriniar could be the defender to sign. Škriniar has developed into one of the best defenders in Serie A since his move from Sampdoria in 2017.
