Inter defender heads towards exit

Inter Milan defender Cristian Chivu could be on the move in January after his agent revealed the player is open to approaches in January.

The 31-year-old’s contract is set to expire in the summer and as yet he has not entered into negotiations about a new one.

Because of this uncertainty over his future speculation has been rife that he could be on the move sooner rather than later, with the Premier League’s Liverpool one of several clubs he has been linked with.

Now Chivu’s agent, Victor Becali, has added fuel to the speculations by admitting that a move may come sooner rather than later. Anyone who has placed an online Champions League bet should bear in mind he may not be playing for Inter in the tournament again.

"For now we're stuck, [as] no-one has called from Inter," he said. "The situation has not changed in recent months.

"We'll wait over Christmas, then if nothing happens in the first four-to-five days of January, we'll begin to look around."

The Romanian international has also been linked with Manchester City and Ajax, although his preference would be to stay in Italy.

Despite his desire not to move to a different country, Becali admitted that the player’s hand may be forced if Inter Milan decide to cash in on him before his contract expires.

Chivu joined Inter in 2007 and is now in his fourth season with the Italian giants, during which time he has clocked up well over 100 appearances, helping his side to three Serie A titles and a Champions League crown in the process.

However, it now appears his time at the club is coming to an end.
